POSTED: FEBRUARY 8TH, 2012ARTS DAY AT THE CAPITOL - MARCH 8TH, 2012Get out your calendar and make plans to join the Kansas Citizens for the Arts for:Arts Day at the CapitolTHURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2012Come for the afternoon where we will visit the offices of our legislators and rally in support of the arts in Kansas. Then join us for an early evening reception and tour of the Topeka Performing Arts Center. More information will be provided as we get closer to the day, but please plan to join us in Topeka!__________________________________________________________________________POSTED: JANUARY 18TH, 2012TELL YOUR STORY TODAYThanks to all of you who joined us in Topeka for our legislative breakfast - it was a great success! As you probably know, the Governor has offered a proposal which would combine the Arts Commission and Film Commission into an entity called the Kansas Creative Industries Commission within the Department of Commerce. This Lawrence Journal-World article gives a good explanation of where we currently stand this legislative session. We are excited that the Governor is beginning to understand that the arts are essential to economic development. However, more work must be done: the $200,000 suggested by the Governor is in no way sufficient to support the important work previously funded by the Kansas Arts Commission. The Citizens are working with legislators to fully fund the public commitment to arts in Kansas. In order to make this a reality, legislators need to hear your stories. They need to know how the arts have shaped and enriched your life -- and how a loss of funding will impact the programs that your community depends on. Please take a moment to use our advocacy tool and share your story with your legislators. We are very optimistic that legislators will restore funding for the arts in Kansas, but just like last year, we will need your help in the coming months to make that happen.__________________________________________________________________________POSTED: JANUARY 13TH, 2012GOVERNOR'S BUDGETKansas Arts Commission - An important part of Governor Brownback's Roadmap for improving the state's economy is promoting jobs for all Kansans, regardless of where they reside.
