WELCOME TO THE KANSAS CITIZENS FOR THE ARTS WEBSITE
We are pleased to share with you the many activities that the
Kansas Citizens for the Arts initiates in order to advocate for the arts in
Kansas Communities and schools.
Grassroots arts advocacy in Kansas is having positive affects thanks to
your letters, calls, and e-mails. We have successfully protected funding for
the Kansas Arts Commission and continue to make efforts to assure that the
programs and projects the KAC sponsors remain strong. Kansas citizens also worked hard to acquire
a state-wide fine arts graduation requirement, passed by the Kansas State Board
of Education in December, 2002. We have also curbed proposed legislation that
could potentially damage the arts programs in our schools. Our unified belief
in the power of the arts to better our lives, our education, and our
communities has made a difference in our state.
Please consider contributing to the Kansas Citizens for the
Arts and getting involved. Check in regularly to the KCA website during the
legislative season to learn about proposed bills that affect the arts in our
state. Do your part by contacting your representatives in support of the arts.
Finally, please join us on March 6, 2008 at the Capitol building in Topeka for Arts at the
Capitol Day. We will start the morning at 7:30
a.m. with a breakfast for legislators and their staffs. At 9:00 a.m., our formal events begin,
including speeches by legislators and the governor (invited). Immediately
following this, we will distribute packets of information to KCA members in
attendance that promote the arts in our communities and schools. We will then visit
all of our legislators and the Governor’s cabinet with our information.
Thank you for your support of the arts in Kansas.
